The Hen Party Cruise
River Run Pleasure Cruiser departs the Quayside beside Athlone Castle every Saturday afternoon making it an ideal pre-dinner excursion for all hen parties. Located in the centre of Ireland, with 9 superb golf courses on it’s doorstep, Athlone is a golfer’s oasis. The Christy O’Connor Jnr designed Glasson and Esker Hills Golf Courses, together with the breath taking setting of Athlone Golf Course overlooking Lough Ree and the traditional setting of Mount Temple and Moate Golf Courses offers the most discerning golfer a challenging and memorable experience. However Glasson Golf & Country Club set on a peninsula bordering Lough Ree and offering it’s own private jetty has to be seen to be believed. If you are organising a society outing, our apartments are ideal, as each apartment can accommodate up to 4 people. We are happy to arrange green fees and transport if necessary.

For the ladies that don’t golf, you are well looked after with top class retail therapy. Arch House is strategically located for a days shopping between the new Athlone Town Centre (28,000sqm of retail) and Golden Island Shopping Centre, both offer late opening Thursdays & Fridays and Sundays 12-6pm. In addition to the wide range of high street names available in these centres, Athlone offers a great choice of boutiques with labels from all over the world. Athlone Towncentre is also home to The Sheraton Athlone Hotel and Sirana Spa, a well deserved treat at the end of the perfect shopping trip.
Boat Trips on the Shannon
Located on the River Shannon, Europe’s longest River, Athlone offers various boat trips. Cruise the majestic Shannon and her islands and lakes on board the River Run pleasure cruiser (Bar facilities/Tea & Coffee available on board), or board the Viking Boat and head to Clonmacnoise or the magnificent Lough Ree, This replica Viking Boat offers a commentary of the plundering and pillaging of the many islands and religious sites on the River Shannon. Refreshments served.
Lake & River Fishing
Athlone is an important and well serviced angling centre with full support services for anglers including hire of fishing tackle and boats available locally. There are excellent launching facilities with a number of slipways at various points around the Lough Ree. Pike fishing is available all year round and other species available locally include wild brown trout, bream roach, hybrids and tench. At Arch House we are happy to provide a picnic basket to keep you going until Dinner.

Athlone Equestrian Centre was established in 2006. Situated in a quiet countryside setting on the edge of Athlone, it is perfect for the experienced or the learner. Individual, family, group and corporate bookings are welcome. Enjoy the local countryside and savour the fresh air with a trek through the forest and woodlands.
Theatres in Athlone
Athlone’s Dean Crowe Theatre plays hosts to many National events including the All Ireland Drama Festival every May. It was the All Ireland Drama Festival of 1959 that brought John B. Keane to prominence with the Listowel Drama Group with their production of ‘Sive’. The Dean Crowe Theatre is also home of the Athlone Musical Society Annual Production. Other top class acts at the Dean Crowe Theatre over the years include Phil Coulter, Tommy Tiernan, Tommy Fleming.
Formed in 1995 the intimate Passion Fruit Theatre has quickly made a name in the theatre world with acts such as Don Baker and Eleanor McEvoy. Upcoming acts include Damien Dempsey, Freddie Whyte and John Spillane.
